Aeros VISION Setting up User Permissions
In all businesses, there are power users. These users may not be quite IT personnel, but they are 'computer savvy'. With the ability to set up varying levels of permissions, Aeros VISION gives an administrator granular control over what users can and cannot do in the Aeros VISION product.
A power user may understand the requirements for a specific report, and know what tables are storing the report data. You could give this power user permission to create queries and reports, but limit their ability to create or modify data models. For example, the person who often
works in the SQL Management Studio may have the ability to create the Data Model/Connections to your SQL server and the power user would then use the Data Models created, to run create and run queries and reports. The permissions are based on user name, and not roles.
Step-by-Step Guide
To create new users and set user permissions at a GLOBAL level and not at the Query or Report level(For query or report level access, right click on the specific query or report and select permission for that object specifically):
Log into Aeros VISION as someone who has permission to modify the security of other users.
Click on the Security item in the menu bar.
Select Manage Security
4. To create a new user, click on the New User button.
5. Enter the user name.
6. If password reset is required by your company, place a checkmark
7. Leave the check mark by Active. Users are not deleted, they are inactive. When a user is removed, uncheck Active.
8. On the User Editor screen there are 3 tabs. The first tab, General, has the basic permissions that most users will be granted.
a. Create Query - grants the user ability to create new queries based on existing Data Models.
b. Create Report - grants user ability to create new reports based on queries.
c. Create Dashboard - if Dashboard module is in use, grants the user the ability to create new Dashboards.
d. Create/Edit Data Models - For more advanced users. Grants the ability to create and edit Data Models for use in queries.
e. Create/Edit Connections - For more advanced users. Grants the ability to create new database connections.
f. Create/Edit Categories - For more advanced users. Grants the ability to create or edit categories, which is used when integrating VISION queries and reports with Aeros ERP. The categories determine where in ERP the items will be published.
g. Edit User Security - For more advanced users. Allows a user to modify other users' permissions in VISION.
9. The ERP Integration tab is used for Creating Financial Groups within ERP. The permission to Publish Queries and Reports, is also located on this tab.
10. The Misc tab currently has Migrate From Reporter - which is older functionality. User is granted the ability to migrate reports from older product. Coming in a future release is the ability give access to the VISION Repository, but is not yet implemented.
11. Once permissions are selected for this user, click Save and Close button.
